It is very easy to keep a Pergo floor clean. For normal, day –to-day wear, a simple sweeping with either a regular soft bristle broom or an electric broom, followed by a damp mop are all it will take. When thinking about how to clean Pergo floors it is very important to remember that you should never use any soap, detergent or harsh cleansers on your floor. These cleaning products will leave a film on your floor’s surface which will dull its shine. Any difficult spots such as cigarette burns, markers or nail polish can be easily removed with Pergo’s own product: Laminate and Hard Surface cleaner. Many people wondering about how to clean Pergo floors will want to consider making their own cleaning solution. They will want to know if it is safe to do so and the answer is a resounding yes!
To make your own Pergo cleaning solution, mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 gallon of warm water. If you do not have vinegar, you can also use ½ cup of ammonia in 1 gallon of water. Please remember that Pergo floors should never be waxed or polished. They should never be sanded or refinished either. You should never use a wet mop on your Pergo floor.
The most important things to remember when thinking about how to clean Pergo floors is that they need regular maintenance which is fairly easy to do. They need to swept or mopped about once a week. Sweeping is important because you want to remove as much surface dirt and grit from the floor as possible. Allowing surface grit to accumulate on your Pergo floor can cause it to be scratched. Installing a mat at the entrance most used by people coming into the house will go a long way toward reducing the amount of dirt that enters your home.
The manufacturer recommends mopping these type of floors about once a week. Remember to use the least amount of water possible when mopping your Pergo floor. Using too much water will cause your Pergo floor to expand which can damage it. Never use any kind of wet mop on any type of laminated floor and always wipe up any spills immediately. Dry the floor completely when you have finished mopping it.
If you must use some type of cleaning solution, use simple vinegar and water. This solution can be made by combining ¼ cup of white vinegar to 2 quarts of warm water. Place into a spry bottle. Use this bottle to spray small sections at a time of your floor. Then use a damp sponge mop to wipe up the water as you go. Vinegar will prevent your floor from streaking and because you are using the spray bottle to wet the floor, you will be applying very little liquid to it.
Many people will use a Swiffer Wet-Jet mop on their Pergo floors. These mops are ideal because, again, they use very little liquid.
It will be very easy for you to look after you new floors when you know how to clean Pergo floors.
